Skateboard with What You Have

insane.children shares this video from Portland, Oregon

She says she needs to tighten her trucks but she doesn’t have a skate tool.  I love that rather than use it as an excuse to not skate she just went and skated.

I’ve also noticed that no matter how many skate tools I have, I never have one when I need it.  Where do missing skate tools go?

Eargasm High Fidelity Earplugs at KAABOO

Screen shot 2016-09-06 at 11.28.19 AM

KAABOO is coming up quick so I’m making last minute preparations of what to bring and who to check out.  One of the sponsors Eargasm was new to me – so I had to check them out & this is what I found when I checked in with Ryan from Eargasm.

SF:  You’re new to KAABOO – what made you want to be a part of it? Perhaps you attended last year?

Ryan:  Yes, this is our first year doing the festival. We wanted to be part of this great event because we wanted to get the word out there that earplugs don’t have to be lame! People often associate wearing earplugs at a concert to be burdensome rather than beneficial, but we are trying to change that perception.

SF:  Why is ear/sound protection important?   So many think louder is better.  The line up of music for KAABOO:

Screen shot 2016-09-06 at 11.43.17 AM

Ryan:  When you hear ringing in your ears after a show, that is because sound-sensitive cells in your ear have been damaged. Your ears will usually recover from the ringing in a day or two and you might think that all is back to normal, but that is unfortunately not true. Repeated exposure to loud noise can result in permanent hearing loss and a persistent ringing sound called tinnitus. Our earplugs help reduce the chance of long term hearing damage and also help prevent the ringing you hear immediately after a concert.

SF:  What’s revolutionary about your product?

Ryan:  Normal foam earplugs muffle sound and block so much noise out that it ruins the experience of listening to live music.

Our earplugs use a special attenuation filter that reduce noise evenly while maintaining the full spectrum of sound. It’s as if you have you ability turn the volume knob on noise around you from a 10 down to a 5 or 6. Everything sounds the same as you normally hear it, just at a lower volume!

Additionally, our earplugs are very discreet and for most users they do not stick out of your ear. No one will even know you’re wearing them! However, if someone does happen to catch a glimpse of them, we don’t think you’ll be that embarrassed to show them off since they have a pretty awesome design.

SF:  Where can Eargasm be found at KAABOO & before?

Ryan:  Our booth at KAABOO will be on the KAABOOLEVARD. We will be giving away free snow cones and have our earplugs available for purchase!

On line you can order Eargasm at their website or on Amazon.com

Skateboarding because it makes you feel good – in my mind one of the best reasons to skate.  Keep sharing your photos & why you skate because more girls skateboard when they see stylish girls skateboarding.

Can you spot the Silly Girl in the background?  In case you can’t here’s another shot of her on Aimi’s board.

acskates shares this picture of her 3rd place trophy – she was skating with da boys in Florida

Yes – this blog is about encouraging girls to skate because it’s a myth that only boys skateboard.  And it’s a myth that girls have to skate with girls and boys with boys –  we are all people and the world is a better place when we live together & lift each other up.

Screen shot 2016-09-05 at 11.05.51 AM

Above acskates aka Anna Claire skating.  Thanks Anna Claire for sharing – thanks to the contest for being co-ed and thanks to Anna Claire’s aunt – Gail.   She first introduced me to Anna Claire and now keeps me posted on her progress.

Another Skateboarding Love Story

Screen shot 2016-07-08 at 10.48.42 AM

Whitney Montandon shares this video and the following story

TBT to this day in 2007 when I placed 3rd in a long boarding competition. I was the only girl and after wards had guys asking me about the details of my board and I was like…Uhhh it just came this way when I bought it hahahaaha. Fun Fact I met my husband at this comp!

Of all the stories I share – the love stories are extra special.  The ones where the girl was the only girl – love those too because change can be beautiful.  And of course I love the stories where girls encourage each other.  So please share your skateboarding stories because more girls do skate when they see stylish girls skating.

ivivva Carlsbad Grand Opening at the Forum

I’ve always been thrilled to work with ivivva.  And working the grand opening at the new Carlsbad store on 9/1/16 was thrilling.

My mom was kind enough to take photos so here goes my post on the evening.  Below the store right before the VIP Event which went from 5 – 7pm.

Lisa and the store staff put so much planning into this event.  I go to lots of events and this was top notch.  In addition to having the store stocked to the brim, they anticipated a huge crowd so they had tons of activities that made the wait fun plus built community.

calm go

The night started with check in where you received your goodie bag complete with a raffle ticket.  The raffle was amazing for several reasons – starting with your stub was already in the bin so you didn’t have to worry is my ticket in.

sign in and enter

The raffles went on every 15 minutes.  The winning numbers were written on the store board – if you weren’t there you have a week to go claim your prize.   So if you weren’t there the entire night – I’d go back to the store to see if you won.  The jacket below was just one of the amazing prizes, plus you got to pick your prize in your size & color.

raffle

As more people arrived – the store kept getting busier.

to packed

To make sure everyone was comfortable looking at all the selections – tops, shorts, leggings, jackets, backpacks . . .

there were the activities including hair braiding

tattoos & of course delicious food & beverages

tattoo and food

The activities were fun and I believe they built community because I saw people making friends.  Below are real life people having fun talking in a fitting room line.  Fun in a fitting room line only happens when you’re with friends.

fitting room

And I know I made friends.  All the girls in the purple tanks were volunteers – who I met for the first time last night.  They’re all active girls (Syndi, Maddi, Rheigan, Kayla & Joy) who are passionate about their sport, their fashion, and making a positive impact on the world.  Here I am with just a few of them.

squad

It’s more than ok to be a girl – it’s something to celebrate.  All girls have strength, beauty, and individuality – ivivva celebrates this by designing beautiful athletic wear and giving girls opportunities to meet & connect through movement.  The grand opening last night was just the beginning of how the Carlsbad ivivva store is building a community of strong girls.  You can follow them on IG ivivva_carlsbad to see all the activities and when you’re in the store you can look at the board behind us in the picture – written in the map of California are all the monthly events.

ivivva communities offer a variety of complimentary athletic classes and Dreams & Goals programs. Through these events girls get to connect and celebrate each other – where they can push their boundaries, knowing that falling and getting back up is all part of the journey.

skateboarding is all about pushing the boundary, falling & getting back up so be looking for an ivivva_carlsbad skateboarding event soon

Learned to Drop in Today

She says it was Bloody Scary – but she’s thankful others taught her & didn’t let her quit.  As for her favorite skating friend – her reason for trying skating – he’s her 11 year old son!

#nevertooold

Age is just a number till you make it more.  Recently I’ve been “told” that I’m too young – you are never to young to have passion, drive, and take action!

Screen shot 2016-07-08 at 10.07.34 AM

You are always way more important than any number.  Age, weight, GPA, income, # followers, rank or whatever else someone tries to label you as only defines you if you let it define you!
