Traveling Skater Girls

Screen shot 2015-12-08 at 10.01.53 AM

Senpai.sophiesmiles_ skates in Missouri but when she travels to California to Vans Off the Wall Skate Park she has no problem making new friends like Silly Girls – Julz Lynn.

Girls who skate for fun and the love of skateboarding – always have time for other girls – yes even if they happen to be one of the best skateboarders in the world.  Thanks Julz for always being authentic, friendly, and inspiring!

And shout out to any other girls skateboarding in Missouri – I love how megan_kitson_fitness added to Julz post and said I’m here in Columbia, Missouri if anyone wants to skate.  That’s how girls skateboarding grows – girls encouraging other girls.

On the tenth day of December we found skater girls from Missouri.

Ohio Skater Girls?

Screen shot 2015-12-04 at 8.36.00 AM

Are there girls skateboarding in Ohio?  I was asked that question and I’m happy – excited – over joyed to say – YES.  Imjustgabs photo by ohionic.

And thank you daddy – yes my dad is who first got me skateboarding & now introduced me to Gabrielle.  In addition to being a stylish skateboarder, she’s an incredible tattoo artist.

So who else is skateboarding in Ohio?  More girls skate when they see girls skateboarding & we encourage each other – so please take the time to share – thanks.

On the 4th day of December we are so happy to see our first skater girl in Ohio!

Sweetheartsk8 shares a color coordinated FS180 at Mcdowell Mountain Ranch Skate Park in North Scottsdale, Arizona.

Sammy is skating for fun and learning for life I love that attitude and I love to see girls sharing their passion for skateboarding.  Here she is testing the mini-mega at KTR Chandler – looks like she approves it!

More girls skate when they see girls skate and get encouragement – so keep sharing where you’re keeping it stylish!

Happy December – marking Arizona as day 1.

South Carolina Skater Girl

Screen shot 2015-10-10 at 10.54.04 AM

I find it so inspiring when girls from around the world share their pictures – I just know more girls skate when they see girls skate.

This is Megzi aka meggggomyeggo skating with style in Clemson South Carolina.  She’s also a student at Clemson University – girls really can multi task!

Megzi also has some wise advice on her instagram – I love this quote she shared from the artist Mod Sun! “So many people think that finding yourself is narrowed down to one specific answer.  There is NO limit on how many “you’s” you can find within.  I finally accepted the array of different people I was and became an i n d i v i d u a l .”

Thanks Megzi!

Michigan Skater Girls Skate with Style

These 2 pictures were direct messaged to me by lone-wolf_boarder with the caption:

Post it up spread the word!  Girls Shred too!!

I absolutely love spreading the word & sharing the pictures – seeing is believing & more girls do skateboard as they see other girls skateboarding and having fun.  We are all stronger people when we encourage each other.

These girls are shredding at Modern Skate & Surf Royal Oak Michigan! at a #grogirls #grogirlsmichigan event – if you haven’t checked out GRO – Girls Riders Organization – you should – they are all about getting girls like these rad ones in Michigan together to skateboard for fun.

Skateboarding is fun & it’s even more fun with friends.  Love the style I’m seeing here – can’t wait to see more from these Michigan Skater Girls.  My mom’s from Michigan – maybe it’s time I skate the “homeland”!

Encouraging your Niece to Skateboard

Screen shot 2015-10-04 at 2.34.53 PM

This picture is of Anna-Claire kicking but at the #BREC Ride ‘N’ Roll skateboarding competition – so glad Gail Suberbielle takes the time to encourage her niece & then share this so other girls can be inspired to skateboard.

#BREC is a park in Baton Rouge Louisiana 52.2 Acres for Extreme Sports fans.

I hope we see more of Anna-Claire and other girls because more girls skateboard when they see girls having fun skateboarding.  And all girls are stronger when we encourage each other!

Face the Fear & Skateboard

Screen shot 2015-10-17 at 6.12.54 PM

This is my IG friend theneemsay – I thought I posted this before but when I went to look for it I couldn’t find it – so here it comes – I love, love, love Yasmeen’s caption for this picture

TBH when I initally got to Cenmass and saw the ramp, I was having doubts on whether I should skate it or not.  I didn’t want to get in anybody’s way, or be subjected to harsh judgement, etc.  I was thinking of every worst case scenario, upon seeing the mini!

But I’m beyond glad I skated it.  I had fun, met and skated with some rad people and I even landed a new trick!  I braved up against lingering doubt and against a ramp that I considered to be kinda tall (this is the tallest I’ve ever skated lol).

Picture taken during the 1st day in Central Mass Skate Festival – Harvard, Massachusetts

We all have fears – I especially fear and hate being judged & really who wants to hear harsh criticism?  I find it so inspiring to see and hear that other girls have these fears & skate anyway.

At least for me – it’s not about my skill level – it’s about my fun level.  I’m so happy for Yasmeen that she faced her fear, had fun, and now shares so others can get inspired.

thanks Yasmeen & so rad you got to bomb Broadway

Big Concrete Skateparks & Amazing Skater Girls in Texas

vert wall

When I think of a vert ramp – I think wood – Jordan aka extremelife2003 has opened my eyes by sharing this picture of North Houston Skatepark which used to be called Spring Skatepark.

Things really are big in Texas because there’s another large vert ramp at the Downtown Skatepark known as the Lee and Joe Jamail Skatepark

Jordan started skateboarding when she met Christian Hosoi for the first time when she was 5 years old.   On her first day, Christian Hosoi was so awesome to ask everyone to step out of the bowl so that he could take her by the hands and roll her back and forth in the bowl.
holding hands
Jordan’s mom Israel says “It all started when I saw Christian Hosoi ‘s documentary on Showtime Rising Son, “The Legend of Skateboarder Christian Hosoi”, a very moving documentary that any skateboarder should see. I was so moved and inspired by his documentary that I told myself that I just had to meet him, and bring him to Houston, Texas to share his story.  It took a while to get him to Houston because Christian was so much in demand then and even now. Since then, Jordan and Christian share a special friendship, he as a mentor for a little girl who aspires to one day be the female version of Christian Hosoi. As you can tell by her wardrobe style. Lol!”

Thanks to Christian’s teaching and watching his video’s – Jordan now loves airs just like him.
One of the biggest compliments that we get is when people ask me when they see her skate, “how old is he?”  And when I answer that Jordan is a she, they say, but she skates like a boy!  And I say “yes she does”!  Israel

hoisoi3

I feel blessed that Jordan and her supportive mom Israel shared these pictures and her story with us.  Where are you skateboarding?  More girls do skateboard as they see girls skateboarding!

I’m actually going to meet Jordan when she comes to EXPOSURE Skate 2015 in Encinitas, CA her board sponsor Hosoi Skateboards is a Silver Sponsor – who else is coming on November 7th?  Whether you’re coming or not share your skate pictures because #girlscanskate!

Skateboard Clinic at Community BBQ

Screen shot 2015-08-31 at 3.24.49 PM

You know you’re at a stylish community BBQ when it offers a skateboard clinic.  That’s exactly what the 71st Precinct did in this photo from okbana taken at the Parkside Playground.

If you want to know more about Skate Yogi  who put on the clinic check them out through the link.  Or go through okbana’s bio as he’s the founder.

As for this photo – so much style – red helmet matching the sandals – and yes when you’re having fun skateboarding you can where sandals!  Looks like she’s getting excellent instructions & she’ll know when it’s time to get serious skate shoes.

Keep it stylish on & off the board – hope to see more pictures from skate clinics soon!

When People Tease You About Skateboarding

Learning anything new can be scary.  So it helps to keep a positive mind and focus on things that give you strength.  That’s why I love audbam’s photo & tag about learning to longboard

Jesus

I work ahead so several weeks passed between the picture and the post.  When I went to check the link, I was really sad to see that audbam had been teased for participating in the blog.  I’ve been teased and bullied and yes I’ve heard sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me – and maybe it’s literally true.  But what’s 100% true is words can build you up, words can tear you down.

We all make mistakes including saying the wrong thing at the wrong time.  I just want to challenge myself & others to try and use the words that build yourself and others up.

The world would be a better more peaceful place if everyone remembered & practiced

Till next time keep skateboarding for fun & encouraging others to be their best – because that’s what’s Thumper wishes for everyone.
