What to do in Connecticut ?
Tisha skating in Connecticut says her plan is Skate, Travel, Tattoos, Eat – Repeat
Looks like it’s working for her. To see more of her skating and other girls especially in New England – check out New England Female Skateboarding they have a huge event coming up June 18th
Plus they meet on Tuesdays for free girls skate sessions at The Edge Indoor Skate Park. I’m glad to see all these girls believing skate & repeat 🙂
Maine Musician Skating in New Hampshire
allivialorusson is from Maine skating in New Hampshire.
She’s a musician who skates for fun and loves the great memories and amazing friends she makes through skating. Below she’s skating in Maine.
Having always lived in California – it’s just amazing to me how other states are so close to each other.
I found Allivia through Stephanie aka drlipschits who founded New England’s Female Skateboarding.
And I found Stephanie through a skate shop in Boston. I love when skaters work together. Save the date if you’re in New England for their first event – the final flyer will be available June 1st.
And here’s a picture of Stephanie from Massachusetts skating in Seattle, Washington at Wheels of Fortune.
As of today the only New England state left for the collage is Vermont. I appreciate all the help I’m getting finding #girlscanskate USA!
UPDATE 6/1/16 the final flyer
Roll for Rob Skate Camp is Open in Rhode Island
The latest collage #girlscanskate everywhere in the US is probably the most intense one. When I did the collages of girls skateboarding around the world and girls skating in Canada – it was open.
However many girls from wherever. This time it’s 50 some girls – 1 from each state. There will be more than 50 because I have a girl skating in District of Columbia which is our countries capital and I’m hoping to get a picture from Puerto Rico and as geography is not my strength there’s probably other US territories.
Day one I received this picture from Rhode Island from amyliterock105. Right off I’m happy because Rhode Island was a state I didn’t have. Then I found out more about this picture. What’s @rollforrob Skate Camp?
There isn’t a camp – the picture is Rob & his daughters. But, Roll for Rob is very real. I want to share what Roll for Rob is because I’m constantly impressed by how generous skateboarders are and how you’re a skateboarder for life not just when you’re riding your board.
Rob Pontes is a loving husband and father of two young daughters, Avery and Oliva. On any given day he could be found skateboarding with his friends or putting on events for work. Other days would consist of 7am wakeup calls from the girls ready to run around outside to create beautiful family memories. Now, things are a little different. About two years ago Rob began feeling lethargic and developed other symptoms that doctors initially thought to be Lyme Disease… As these symptoms progressed Lyme Disease was ruled out, and doctors are now leaning towards the early stages of ALS. A once active guy, Rob now needs a wheel chair to get around on those family outings and the wheels on his skateboard have not rolled in two years. Simple chores around the house like laundry and dishes(yes he used to do them both!)can’t be done due to weakness throughout his entire body. Even kissing the girls goodnight before they go to sleep is physically draining.
Rob’s friends have raised over $40k in 19 months. I find over and over again skateboarders give back. There’s stereotypes about everything – the three I hope this blog shatters is
- Girls can’t skate
- Skateboarding is a crime
- Skateboarders are delinquent
Yes there are lemons in skateboarding – ask Beyonce there are lemons everywhere and sometimes good people do lemony things. We all have a choice to make lemonade.
I like to think I make lemonade by sharing inspiration. I certainly was inspired by this picture of Roll for Rob Skate Camp – Rob with his daughters Avery & Olivia.
And if you’re in Rhode Island on Sunday July 24th check this out & please share pictures with the blog.
Tell Avery I said Hi 🙂
UPDATE 6/8/16
The new #rollforrob decks are available for pre-order. Please tag your local shop. Any shop looking to pre order the boards please contact [email protected]. They will be for sale at the next event July 24th @civilprovidence and your local shop.
adidas AwayDays the LA Premiere
Last night was the premiere of adidas’ first full length film. It was packed. This picture is me peeking over the crowd that literally circled the Orpheum Theater in Los Angeles.
Any time you have a large waiting group pandemonium can break out. It stayed chill – all the people around me were in good spirits. And to the guy who suggested the film be shown on a jumbotron so everyone could watch from the streets – that’s a brilliant idea.
The Orpheum Theater on Broadway in downtown Los Angeles is amazing. It opened in 1926 was renovated in 1989 and is currently the most restored of the historical movie palaces in the city. It has a capacity of 2000 – which must have been met last night.
Snoop Dogg introduced the Gonz and everyone else who participated in the making of this film. Somewhere out there is an amazing selfie of the adidas team.
Then it was movie time. Somewhere out there are reviews that will go into a lot of detail – this review isn’t one of those.
Normal people don’t skate like that – the people in this film were both incredibly gifted athletes & artists. adidas also had amazingly talented people behind the cameras and selected fabulous cities that complemented the skaters abilities. The end result is a film that captivates you.
Should you see it – yes. It’s an inspirational film. Not because I think I’ll try some of those tricks – it was definitely one of those films don’t try this at home & never try it alone – but because I want to experience the joy I saw. They weren’t skating for the cameras – they were skating for the love of it and allowed the cameras to be there.
Of all the charismatic people in the film – the stand out for me was Na-Kel Smith
I could be biased because he had my attention from Episode 2 of Far & Away – the making of AwayDays by adidas & Thrasher.
He loves skateboarding and he lives to share the love of skateboarding. That’s what makes skateboarding grow, that’s what inspires me to keep skating & blogging.
I have the mantra – more girls skateboard when they see stylish girls skateboarding & get encouraged – the truth is more people skate when they see people skating and get encouraged.
This film inspires as it shows how universal skateboarding is – all around the world – take your board and skate. You’re not alone when you skate for the love of it – you’ll find your homies who may be skating already or are the people you inspire to skate.
As the skatingfashionista I also want to complement the adidas team for taking some fashion risks. I liked it. There’s no uniform in skateboarding. I saw some sweatpants – some red pants – little camo – some patterned shorts – YES – wearing what you want – that’s stylish on & off the board.
Finally Krispy Kreme – having your doughnut light on & people visibly in the store but the drive thru closed when I’m headed home & needing a doughnut & my mom needed coffee – not cool. The world would be a better place with 24 hour Krispy Kreme drive thrus – so next time please be open.

adidas skateboarding #AwayDays the Premiere
adidas Skateboarding Away Days – not to be confused with Awaydays the 2009 British Film – is adidas’ first feature length skate film.
adidas being involved with skateboarding is nothing new. Some of their team riders – The Gonz considered to be the father of modern street skating – have been with them for over 15 years. Their team is global and this film looks like it will take the viewer around the world.
I’ve watched four of the Making of Away Days videos with Thrasher Magazine and I’m excited for tonight.
Since posting that I’m going to this event – I’ve received some questions on why I’m going when there aren’t any girls in the film. I watch skate videos when I like the skating. To me skateboarding is sport and art. I watch the skater when they capture and hold my attention – I don’t watch a skater because they are a boy or girl.
The messages I heard in the previews and what I hope the film shows is it’s about skating when the vibe is right, it’s about being open to travel and explore, it’s about giving back and inspiring/allowing others to skate, and that there’s more than landing tricks.
Just because I don’t blog about boys skateboarding doesn’t mean I don’t want more boys skateboarding. I want more people skateboarding – seeing that it’s sport & art – I think that’s what adidas wants too – so here’s to seeing the film tonight.
If you’re unable to attend tonight’s premier in LA the next stops are

Mighty Mama Skate O Rama – recap of Sunday 5/8
Sunday May 8th was Mother’s Day – I celebrated in Cardiff with my mom and there were lots of girls celebrating at the Mighty Mama Skate O Rama at the Laguna Niguel Skatepark.
The annual Mother’s Day event, hosted by Skateboard Moms and Sisters of Shred, seeks to empower women through skateboarding and raise money for causes. This year, more than $4,500 in proceeds went to Community Service Programs and the Orange County Human Trafficking Task Force. – OC Register
Thanks to those who went and shared here are some highlights.

Awesome things happen when we encourage each other like . . .
imagemaven (from Calgary – Canada) who shares this video with the caption
Happy to report that I am now able to drop in! Yesterday at the wood Iguana Bowl and today on cement. Awesome weekend of skating with amazing women at the MMSOR.
I love skate events like this – because everyone is welcome – women/girls age doesn’t matter in skateboarding – you’re never to young or too old to start having fun – and men/boys yes I want to skate with everyone who brings a positive vibe. Below video 3mezagroms.
If you have pictures to add to this post just let me know – until then I’ll end it with some more shots from Kendra who traveled from NY to skate here in Southern California – have board can travel.
And check out the Orange County Registers article

If you haven’t heard of Missing Girls Art Project please read my post on 3/26 to see what one local skater girl – Carly Vanderkarr – is leading. Carly was at Sunday’s event and shared with the OC Register.
Skateboarding for fun and being able to help others – so rewarding & super stylish!
You don’t have to be a girl or even skateboard to be a skatingfashionista – it’s just about sharing your style. Now go check out the OC Register Slide Show with these & more photos by Mindy Schauer.
Sheckler Foundation 7th Annual Skate for a Cause
Yesterday I had the opportunity to attend the Sheckler Foundation’s Skate for a Cause. It was their 7th year of hosting a world class skate jam & carnival.
It was at the etnies Skatepark of Lake Forest
which I found out yesterday was the first collaboration of a company and city to build a public skatepark. Skater owned companies sharing the love of skateboarding and giving back to the community!
The Sheckler Foundation was established in 2008 as a way for Ryan, his family, friends and business associates to give back to the community and action sports industry they love. Our mission is to support great causes that directly benefit and enrich the lives of children and injured action sports athletes, inspiring them to “Be the Change”!
True to the schedule there was plenty of skateboarding to watch plus there was something for everyone in the family to enjoy.
The booths were an eclectic combination of Ryan’s sponsors and non-profits he aligns with
plus rides like the hamster ball, jumpies and great food.
One thing I love about the Sheckler Foundation is they encourage donors to actively participate in where the funds go. When I’m aware and feel involved, I’m inspired to stay committed.
Even the raffle for donated pro skate decks was interactive. You got to choose where your ticket went. The clear ballot boxes added to the excitement – did you go with your favorite or where your odds looked better?
To see more pictures check out the Sheckler Foundation IG, IG tags like #skateforacause #shecklerfoundation or their site.
Thank you Ryan for a hosting a fabulous event & for showing its super stylish to work with your mom on & off the board.
Happy Mother’s Day to my mom/photographer/driver and all the other moms who share their love 24/7. And all of these rad individuals have pictures to share too Andy MacDonald, Grind for Life/Mike Rogers, Neal Mims/Academy Skatepark, Angela, London, Teegan, and Jim.
