Above Neal Mims – professional skateboarder & encourager of all skateboarders at the November Skate Rising event.

Neal Mims, Academy Skate Park founder, has opened the doors to the skate park to all girls of all ages & all skate levels for this special Skate Rising event on 12/10/16.   Academy is located at 1410 Vantage Court in Vista, CA.

Skate Rising is a monthly event.  Held on the 2nd Saturday of each month, it lifts

up the next generation of girls through learning, serving, and skating.

December’s service activity is collecting for the “Toys and Teen” gift drive.  Why collect for teens?  Many needy teens are overlooked during toy drives.

Skate Rising teaches our youth that everyone in the community is equally important so of course everyone in the community deserves a merry holiday.  What can you bring to help?

Any new and unwrapped gift will be appreciated.  These are just a few tips plus you can make a cash donation if that’s easier.

Headphones, jewelry, sunglasses, backpacks, satchels, skateboards, basketballs, soccer balls, footballs, brushes, makeup brushes, makeup, blow dryers, curling irons, blow dryers, tee shirts.

Do you have to bring a donation to attend the event?  No all are welcome.  Skate Rising is always free to attend.

Academy Skate Park will be leading the Learn to Skate section and SkateXS will have boards available for those who need to borrow.  Nekter Juice and Phive Bar will be there to provide healthy refreshments.

Hope to see you at Academy Skate Park on Saturday 12/10 9am!

After the event you are welcome to come with us to the Del Mar Fairgrounds where we will be dropping off the “Toys and Teen” donations to the CRC (Community Resource Center) who sets up a market place for families to pick out their gifts.

Sheckler Foundation 7th Annual Skate for a Cause

Yesterday I had the opportunity to attend the Sheckler Foundation’s Skate for a Cause.  It was their 7th year of hosting a world class skate jam & carnival.

It was at the etnies Skatepark of Lake Forest

which I found out yesterday was the first collaboration of a company and city to build a public skatepark.  Skater owned companies sharing the love of skateboarding and giving back to the community!

The Sheckler Foundation was established in 2008 as a way for Ryan, his family, friends and business associates to give back to the community and action sports industry they love. Our mission is to support great causes that directly benefit and enrich the lives of children and injured action sports athletes, inspiring them to “Be the Change”!

True to the schedule there was plenty of skateboarding to watch plus there was something for everyone in the family to enjoy.

The booths were an eclectic combination of Ryan’s sponsors and non-profits he aligns with

plus rides like the hamster ball,  jumpies and great food.

One thing I love about the Sheckler Foundation is they encourage donors to actively participate in where the funds go. When I’m aware and feel involved, I’m inspired to stay committed.

Even the raffle for donated pro skate decks was interactive.  You got to choose where your ticket went. The clear ballot boxes added to the excitement – did you go with your favorite or where your odds looked better?

Grand Opening Academy Skate Park in Vista Ca

I’m lucky enough to be a student and friend to pro skateboarder Neal Mims.  I was at the Grand Opening of his new skatepark – Academy Skatepark on April 2, 2016.

Even though I was working – I had fun.  There’s something for everyone.

As part of the Grand Opening – Sambazon Cafe & Bull Taco were also there.

The park is now open daily – I’d love if you shared your pictures & stories with the blog.  I’ll keep you posted on upcoming events – I had so much fun last Thursday at the Free Skate Clinics – the future is very bright – thanks Neal Mims for spreading #yesyoucan. Screen shot 2016-04-03 at 11.24.05 AM

Skateboarding the Fun Exercise

Screen shot 2015-11-30 at 9.00.12 AM

Skateboarding is sport and art plus fun exercise.  Marcelachicolli shares this video.   It’s just one of her rad pictures that show #girlscanskate – skateboarding is one of the most fun exercises out there.  Don’t believe it’s exercise – than you haven’t skated – it’s an incredible core workout plus aerobics.  Think of it as rolling yoga on caffeine!

And after just helping at Academy Skate Park I can assure you helping is a workout – running with the skateboard ?

What Did You Do At School Today? Made a Skateboard.

Screen shot 2015-11-19 at 1.55.11 PM

My mom is always asking “What did you do at school today?”  I have never made a board.

Artpanthers shares a class pic of a student who made her own board and now she’s going to learn to ride it.  Skateboarding is sport and art.

How you set your board up is a reflection of what you’re thinking & feeling.  I love to share the pictures and stories of the rad boards out there.

In keeping with the January theme of celebrating people who help others learn to skate – thank you to the teachers and coaches.  Thank you to my English/Yearbook teachers who encourage me to write and Neal Mims who’s opening his own place Academy Skatepark in Vista, CA.

If you’re in the area stop by – I’ll be blogging live!

If you’re not in area, still follow Academy because it’s more than a park – it’s a Community!  Plus they have an on-line pro-shop and will have live feeds.
