Skateboarding Free Therapy (might work best with good leggings)

Lexi shares this video of New Year Skateboarding in the garage.

Do the leggings improve her skateboarding?  I think she could skate well in anything.  I also think anytime you’re owning your style & confident in yourself anything you do will be top notch.

Check Lexi out.  She’s in New England, so with all the snow she’ll probably be in the garage or at the indoor park.  I loved how she captioned this photo.

Thankful that skateboarding is free therapy and thankful for these girls!

I’m thankful she shared and hope she inspires you to share.  Free therapy, just another reason skateboarding is good for girls.  And being thankful is stylish on & off the board so always let someone know if you’re thankful for them.

Realaxe Association Supporting Girls Skateboarding in Paris

The best part of being a blogger is staying in contact with the girls I write about and writing follow up posts on the amazing things they do.

I first met Corinne getting ready for EXPOSURE Skate 2015.  My first post on her was as a French skater girl living in NYC.

Then I wrote about her as part of the sPACY cLOUD team and now I’m thrilled to be sharing the work she’s doing to promote girls skateboarding in Paris with Realaxe Association

Non-profit Association encourageant les filles pratiquant le skateboard ! Nonprofit Organization supporting girl skateboarders! Paris ??

One of the things Realaxe Association does is encourage girls to skateboard together.  To help that happen they held a Girls Skateboarding Weekend on October 1st & 2nd 2016.

Above a video of Charlotte Hym one of the 13 girls who attended.  They started on Saturday at Cosanostra Skatepark with a jam session.

Then on Saturday after brunch (these are my kind of girls) they went to Jemmapes Skatepark for another jam session and even more girls came.

The girls ranged in age with the youngest being Lena at 7 and had various skills, Aicha came for her first lesson.  They all agreed that the weekend was encouraging and made them want to skateboard even more.

In addition to encouraging girls to skateboard Realaxe Association supports female artists.   The weekend included an exhibition at Wunderbar, rue Baurepaire.

Relax Association was thankful to the DJs that played during the exhibition Old Jay and Grambe,  photos Marion in the Woods, Kate Murray Art of Caroline Dynybil, video of Estelle Beauvais, and Le Shape who collaborated on one of the boards, and Jule et Lily for the pin

Wherever you are in the world having fun skateboarding take the time to share because that’s how more girls decide to try skateboarding.  It’s sport, art, transportation, exercise and builds self-confidence so help other girls see that they too can keep it stylish on & off the board.

Bay Area Premier of Quit Your Day Job

The Bay Area premiere of Quit Your Day Job plus a Skate Session at Stoked 2 Skate in Santa Rosa, CA is happening

Saturday February 11, 2017

Stoked to Skate,  a non profit private indoor skatepark for the youth, is located at 917 Piner Road Suite E+F in Santa Rosa, CA.

At the event you’ll be able to hang with the cast of “Quit Your Day Job” an all female skateboarding film,  have a chance to win raffle prizes & giveaways from from Mahfia TV & Meow Skateboards , and be there for the Skate Witches zine release!

  • 1-3pm – Girls Session (Beginners Focused)
  • 3pm – Film Premiere
  • 4-7pm – Open Skate (All Genders)

Skate Rising January 14th at Academy Skatepark

The first Skate Rising by EXPOSURE Skate of 2017 in the San Diego area was epic.  65 girls came out to skateboard for fun and they all kept it super stylish.

Huge thanks to Allie Wagner & the KUSI Crew who came out to share the event on Good Morning San Diego.  More girls do skateboard when they see girls skateboarding and find out about fun & inclusive events.  Click below to see some of her coverage.

I always love how Allie  & all of KUSI promote the youth, encourage them to chase their passions & get involved.

The event was at Academy Skatepark in Vista.  Thanks to Neal Mims for opening the doors and keeping the girls dry – it’s been more Seattle than San Diego weather this January.  Plus huge thanks to his entire staff for offering help and tips to skater girls of all levels.

Thanks also to Paige from My Grey Matterz.  She shared her personal story of how her son was injured right outside her house when he was skateboarding without a helmet.  My Grey Matterz mission

to encourage helmet use within the wheel friendly community and to educate participants in brain injury prevention and facts

She encouraged the girls to protect what matters most – their brains aka Grey Matter.  She also encouraged them to make their own decision to wear a helmet & not be swayed by peer pressure that might say helmets aren’t cool or only for little kids.

After Paige’s son was injured, he was treated at Rady Children’s Hospital.  So, it was fitting that this month’s Skate Rising Service Project was making activity bags for the patients.

Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego is a nonprofit, 551-bed pediatric-care facility  . . . . .  the only hospital in the San Diego area dedicated exclusively to pediatric healthcare and the region’s only designated pediatric trauma center.

As you can imagine, it can be overwhelming to stay at the hospital, so the activity kits with items like crayons are meant to bring a smile to the patients’ faces.  The girls also included notes of encouragement in the bags.  Why take the time to make an activity bag for someone you don’t know and will never meet?

What I like best about blogging about the Skate Rising events is that they teach and model kindness.  Each monthly event is about including all the girls at all skill levels.  Even if you haven’t stepped on a skateboard, you are welcome.  Thanks to SkateXS for loaning boards to those who don’t yet have one.

I 100% believe in the importance of having a safe space to learn anything.  Nobody enjoys being with bullies who judge and tease you, while everyone likes being encouraged.  Time and time again I see the volunteers and the girls themselves helping each other and the most amazing things happen.

Girls helping each other & cheering each other on is stylish on & off the board.  The self-confidence you learn from skateboarding goes with you throughout life and the friends you make through skateboarding can be friends for life.

The event ended with a raffle.  All Skate Rising events are free, including the raffle, all you have to do is come & participate.  Huge thank you to all the sponsors who make that possible.

Laughter Makes Learning More Fun

How you respond to “falling” will determine if you learn & are willing to try again or just give up.  Being able to laugh at yourself and not always beat yourself up – I think that helps with learning & is a powerful life lesson.

How is skateboarding helping you in life?  Hope you share because more girls skateboard when the see girls skateboarding and that it leads to style on & off the board.

After a long cruise this morning and 2 hours at the skatepark, all she wanted to do when we got home was cruise some more! The best part for me is that she loves skateboarding purely because of how it makes her feel – she has no concept of being “cool” and doesn’t care what anyone else thinks.

Skate because it’s fun.  You own your style when you let go of what others think of you & follow your passions.  How entirely rad that she’s 4 and gets that already!

Big Girls Skate the Bowl at Forth Union

Forth Union in Asbury Park, New Jersey shared this photo with me.  I had to find out more so I contacted PCollins36.

He shared this photo of his daughter Vivian who’s 2 years old in the picture – now she’s 3.

So first Happy Birthday Vivian!  I love your style and I especially loved what your dad told me

she wanted to skate today because she got new skate shoes today

Having the right shoes is key to having fun skateboarding & overall happiness in life.

I also loved that you wanted to skate the bowl because it’s for big girls and you’re a big girl now – turning 3 and just recently becoming a big sis.
