Skating Fashionista on a mission to promote both skate boarding & fashion!

I’m all about girls skateboarding for fun.  If they are going fast awesome – if they are making a documentary let’s help them.

I found out about @girlsgonefast through @gnarly_x_carly.  I’ve actually blogged about Carly because she’s both a skater girl and an incredible artist.

This is one of her pieces for @volcomwomens new line #StoneRow.  I love all things fashion – so it’s a given I’m here to support Carly.

Carly is now on a team mission – she’s part of 10 female skateboarders meeting in Los Angeles on August 10, 2015 to skate the West Coast, and Maryhill, together. They will be documenting their travels through both photography and videography to spread stoke for female skateboarding.  – She Tour 2k15

The SheRiders believe that more female media is key to women’s progression in skateboarding.  They hope the documentary will encourage the growth of female skateboarding, and the creation of female media.

I 100% agree that more girls skate when they see girls skateboarding. It’s why I started this blog and it’s why I will follow the journey of She Tour 2k15 and encourage you to do the same.

The SheRiders set off in a few days and they are oh so close to their FUNdraising goals.  If you can, please help them out by clicking on the pic.

“I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.”   –   Mother Theresa

I read this quote on the She Tour 2k15 site and I agree. Alone we are one person but we all have the power to step up and cast a stone or in this case blog /document that girls can skateboard – pictures do speak a 1,000 words – let’s celebrate the She Tour 2k15 pictures together.

Inclusion is Stylish

holding hands need link

I got this rad pic from Victoria and it was captioned the end of a fun & busy day!  Skateboarding should be fun on any board at any level.

When I see stylish girls like Victoria and her friends, I’m giving them a shout out because those are the girls I want to see more of – those are the girls I want to skate with – girls who encourage and include other girls are the stylish ones on & off the board!

Keep sending me pictures and stories of how you skate for fun & include other girls – more girls do skate as they see other girls skate and they feel included!

Raina giving skate lessons to my niecepenelope_piper

rainnaa__ has been skating for about 6 1/2 years and thinks of skateboarding as her best friend and therapist.  When she goes skating she stops thinking about anything bad or everything period and focuses on skating and having fun.

Here’s rainnaa___ at College Station with some of her skater friends.

And here’s rainnaa___ in a picture from lawyer4life, who has a daughter named Jordan that rips.

It’s amazing how many skater girls are already out there and how they support each other.    Jordan aka extremelife2003 is 11 and rainnaa____ is 13.

We all win when we support each other.  Girls supporting other girls is always in style both on & off the board.

Should Be Only Fun at the Skate Park

Aasiya skating the big bowl today during the girls meet up at Fremont Skate Park.  o_mercado1

Thanks o_mercado1 for sharing – love to see girls skateboarding in bowls and so rad that more and more girls are meeting up for girl skate sessions.

Like it’s fun to skateboard with boys – there’s just something special when girls skate with girls and encourage each other.  Be an encourager to other girls – it’s super stylish.

Everyone should be welcome at the skate park – that’s what skateboarding for fun is all about.

Facing What’s Scary

Abby is keeping it stylish and having a rad time on her skateboard.  Check out duane2501 video to see more fun.

I love when parents encourage their kids to try new things and have fun.  Trying new things can be scary – encouragement reduces scariness.

Till next time keep it stylish on & off the board by facing what’s scary – you got this – we are all born with style!

Love to Have my Feet on a Board

This is meryemgoumi and she loves to have her feet on a board.  I love her stylish skating and I’m happy she shared this awesome picture.

If you love to have your feet on a board share your pictures & stories.  I just added a contact tab to make it easier.  More girls do skate when they see girls having fun skateboarding.  And we all look stylish when we encourage each other on & off the board.

Far Far Away Isn’t Really That Far

korea 10000 km

This is a snap from an amazingly fun video by kimbyelchorong on her Victorsboardshop, Sugapoint skateboarding in Suwon, South Korea.

Huge thanks to kimbyelchorong for sharing and translating – I’m absolutely thrilled when I see girls across the globe having fun on a skateboard. According to the internet we are separated by over 6,000 mile or almost 10,000 km.

Distance is nothing when you have shared interests and encourage each other to succeed wherever you are. True style is global – let’s keep it that way on & off the board!

When You Have Encouraging Parents Learning can be FUN

2 parents encourage

When you have encouraging parents – you’re off to a fabulous start.  Here Nollie is enjoying Sunday Funday with her dad.

There are a variety of beneficial reasons why a parent should encourage a child to explore freeform play. From cognitive and memory skills to social and physical development, there is no end to the ways a child can grow and learn through playtime. Kidjunction.com

What could be more freeform than skateboarding?  There’s endless ways and places to skate – I love the freedom to skate.  I’m on a mission to get more girls skateboarding for fun – so it’s important to me to show girls at all levels.  It’s not like the fun starts when you are able to skate vert – the fun starts when you’re on the board and smiling.

In skateboarding you have to believe you can do it before you land it.  Skateboarding also teaches you how to accept failure- you can know a trick have done it hundreds of times and still fall.  Learning that sometimes you fall is important because that’s what gets you to learn how to get up.

Fabulous job dad – you’re helping her learn while having fun – that’s stylish.  Wishing everyone a rad weekend!

Skater Girls are Athletes & Artists

melissa drop inmelissa at her display

I often say that skateboarding is both sport & art.  So it makes total sense that skateboarders are athletes and artists.  Many skateboarders are artists off the board too.

So which came first the artistry or sport?  Well in Melissa’s case the sport just a different kind of board.  She started snowboarding at 15 and would have skateboarded in the summer but where she came from the community frowned on skateboarding.

I’m happy communities today are changing their attitude about skateboarding.  I believe it’s a much better use of energy to encourage others.

At least for me – I’d rather spend my energy encouraging others than ignoring them, or judging them.  When I encourage someone it makes them feel good and it makes me feel good.  Did anyone ever feel guilty about giving a compliment or encouraging word?  I don’t think so.  And yes everybody has something they can be complemented on!

Melissa is the same way – she wants to promote happiness and she does it through her art.  Her art is macrame jewelry.  She was born with a love of jewelry and her mother encouraged her by taking her and her sisters to the local bead store to make jewelry.

She also found that she loved giving away the pieces even more than making them.  Sort of like encouraging someone does as much if not more for you.  From beads she started making simple hemp bracelets and from there came macrame jewelry.

If you’re wondering how long a piece takes, there’s a wide range from 30 minutes to over 8 hours.  So which came first patience on the board or making jewelry?  I think they feed off of each other – having patience in one area of your life teaches you patience for another area.  Same with focus – if you can learn to focus on your skate tricks you can apply that focus to getting tasks done in your life.

Melissa now lives in California where the weather is usually good for skateboarding and she’s found other skaters that encourage her – shout out to the squad at Carmel Valley Park.  When she’s not skateboarding she’s making jewelry which you can find at local surf shops or on her etsy store.

More girls skateboard when they see girls skateboarding for fun.  And more communities like skateboarding when they see that skateboarding is sport & art.

Orange County Skater Girls

I loved this picture when I saw it and it gets better it’s a video – go check out Sandy Toes Photography to watch it.

She’s not the only lucky 3 year old – turns out she’s at a lesson with Shreducate Academy.  I love finding out about programs that encourage girls to skateboard for fun.

Skateboarding is fun alone and it can totally clear your mind and be a killer core workout but there’s something about skating with friends that’s special.

And there’s definitely something special about Girls Power – I follow Girl is Not a 4 Letter Word for the rad pictures and solid advice.  Recently they posted

Anyone who lives by that list is a friend for life!  And by live I mean on & off the board.   Style is 24/7!
