Skatergirls at Dufferin Grove Skatepark

I’ve written about Babes Brigade in Toronto several times.  I’m always impressed by their positive vibes & the events they host & participate in.

A few days ago they teamed by up with some skater moms – Silvie Varone & Michelle Webb Deveaux to encourage and teach other girls about skateboarding at Duffern Grove Skatepark in Toronto.

Below are some highlights of the day.  Huge thanks to all the girls who support & encourage #girlscanskate.  By sharing your pictures & stories you encourage more girls to try & keep skateboarding.

Girls can benefit from skateboarding.  It’s sport, art, exercise, transportation, rolling yoga & a self-confidence builder.

Thanks also to Vans Canada who sponsored this event.  More girls skateboard when they see stylish girls skateboarding & get encouragement.

Obviously I’m not multi-tasking today.  So here’s a post on Tara who is multitasking with her skateboard!  I’m in love with this picture of her skateboarding and pushing the stroller.

More girls skateboard when they see stylish skater girls.  Take time to share your pictures & stories.  Hoping everyone stays healthy & I make it to camp for day 3.

Day 1 of Camp & I’m Sick

I had big expectations for this week. I was so excited to be an LIT in skate camp at the Ecke YMCA.

Day 1 was a bust. I woke up sick, got sent home & watched princess movies instead of skating with my campers.

Screen shot 2016-07-11 at 4.39.00 PM

As I have a fever of 106 & no appetite – I might be watching more movies tomorrow.

I like my princesses strong.  They can fight & are worth fighting for!

And I like handholding in skateboarding so I hope I’m better soon.  I miss you Kirra & all the other campers.

First GRO San Diego at Encinitas Community Park

Went to the first San Diego GRO (Girls Riders Org) on Saturday July 9th and had a blast.

I’ve always loved the events GRO puts on in other cities and I’m so thankful that @kelsaygroms & @kendra.sebelius have started a monthly Girls Skate Session at the Encinitas Community Park.  The 2nd Saturday of the month all girls – all levels including those just thinking about skateboarding are welcome to come to a free skate sesh from 10am – noon.

It is the perfect place to meet other girls interested in skateboarding. Can you learn to skate there?  Absolutely – most of the girls are more than happy to share their tips & boards.

As for ages – you know how I feel about age – let no number define you or your happiness. But if you’re wondering there was a mix of all ages and all levels.

What I also loved was the total inclusion – yes girls can skate with boys so there were boys – some brothers, dads, and friends who also enjoyed the park and beautiful day.  It’s a public park & public event all are welcome!

Also want to shout out thanks to Nekter Encinitas who supported the event with juice & water.  And all the donations for the free raffle – I know prizes for just showing up.

I’m getting ready to go on my big European adventure but I’ll try to be back by Saturday August 13th for the next GRO San Diego Girls Sesh.   If you have any questions or need directions just let me know plus it will be posted on the upcoming recurring events page of my blog.

Below are pictures my mom took and as for why is it good to have girl skate session?   Why not?  More girls skateboard when they see stylish girls skateboarding & get encouragement so a girls skate sesh lets you see & feel the encouragement.

From Spain now Skateboarding around the World

Maarina1999 aka Marina is originally from Mallorca, Spain.  When I met her on IG she was living in Idaho.

Screen shot 2016-07-08 at 3.00.20 PM

In this video Marina’s dropping in at Rhodes Skatepark for the first time.

And in this video she’s popping out of a pool.

Screen shot 2016-07-08 at 3.00.28 PM

Something tells me this girl can skate anywhere in the world.

Marina travelled to Boise Idaho where Rhodes Skatepark is as a foreign exchange student.  It looks like she’s not the only one visiting.

For all the latest on the park check them out below.  They’re on a mission & when people are on a mission that’s when things get real!

Keep sharing where you’re skateboarding because more girls skateboard when they see stylish girls skateboarding & get encouragement!  Plus it’s rad to find out about parks all over the world – now Idaho is on the bucket list.

Wes We Can

2016 is a political year – globally big changes – Brexit, US Presidential, and Wes We Can all happening now.

As the skatingfashionista – my priority is reporting on whether or not Wes We Can – really is a shoe for the people!  Yes he wrote himself reminders

Screen shot 2016-07-06 at 10.58.19 AMand the web has information on superior substances, layers of defense, and impact protection

Screen shot 2016-07-06 at 10.51.59 AM

and early pollers strongly support the shoe

Screen shot 2016-07-06 at 10.55.29 AM

but does Wes’ shoe really provide “slip on” fit?

Screen shot 2016-07-06 at 11.00.38 AM

and is this shoe for girls too?

Screen shot 2016-07-06 at 11.20.23 AM

You Tube has shown us girls at the rallies – but what did they say after wearing the shoes?

Screen shot 2016-07-06 at 11.27.18 AM

Was there a skate board for the girl in the background?

I’m eternally optimistic – so I think the answers are all yes

  1. The shoes “slip on” & perform
  2. Girls reviews are out there & positive
  3. He’d help anyone upgrade from a scooter to a skateboard

but to prove it – I have to put the shoe & Wes to the test.

If you’re a skater girl with a shoe size of 7 mens or bigger, in the southern California area & available to be a pollster in the August/September time frame – let me know.

If you’re a scooter girl who wants to trade in your scooter for a skateboard – stay tuned for details on how Wes can help you.

Wes has a shoe & a concrete plan can he help the people?  Please volunteer to help the campaign & prove #weswecan.

Thinking about Canada

Since I can remember my Plan B has always been pack up & move to Canada.  Even before I could skateboard – I was moving to Canada where I truly believe things are near perfect.

Thanks to the blog – I actually know people in Canada.  Like  _chickflip_ Canadian skater girls spreading the love of skateboarding from Vancouver to the world.

I wasn’t there but here are some of the rad shots of the day.

Confidence over Fear

Screen shot 2016-04-27 at 12.25.17 PM

Nachiibarrera tagged me in this picture with the caption

which translates to

One day I read that “you gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you stop to look fear in the face, you should do what you think unable to do”… Life is a constant challenge of tests, triumphs or failures product of the choices we make, but those decisions are not because if these decisions lie in past experiences. Today I decide to always go with the truth, it is somehow a way to be free and grab confidence, one of the pillars in the daily live.

Fear can be real and big – here’s hoping your confidence is bigger.  If you want something work for it – if it’s meant to be it’ll happen if it’s not a new better door will open.
